A resin flooring system installed by IRL has provided a completely refurbished floor surface for the fire station at East Midlands Airport.
Subject to continuous hard mechanical wear from the movements of the giant fire tenders, the existing concrete floor was in need of repair and renovation. As well as the need for a new more durable surface the floor also needed to be aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean and maintain.
IRL specified a resin flooring system from Sika. The old concrete floor was patched and levelled with a 5mm screed of Sikalfoor 91, a solvent free high strength, heavy duty epoxy resin floor that provides a surface with high resistance to mechanical wear and abrasion. This was followed by two coats of Sikafloor 261, a low viscosity epoxy resin fllor coating that seals and protects the surface and is available in almost unlimited colours.
Safety Line Marking was reinstated using Sika Icosit EG5 rapid curing system. The expansion joints were installed using Sikaflex PRO 3WF chemical and abrasion resistant polyurethane sealant.
